The 15th Annual Celebrity Championship hosted by Marshall Faulk
had yet another successful year. The three-day event, which was held May 17-19,
took place at the beautiful La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, CA. Thousands
of spectators, sports enthusiasts and fans from throughout the country attended
the star-studded event, which featured over 50 celebrities from the NFL, NHL,
NBA, and MLB as well as Olympians and stars from television and motion
pictures.
Former MLB pitching star Mark Mulder wins
15th Annual Celebrity Championship
Former Major League Baseball pitcher and current ESPN analyst Mark Mulder
posted a final-round 71 for an overall finish of 1-over-par 145 to claim the
crown at the 15th annual Celebrity Championship. Mulder, a two-time
MLB All-Star, finished the tournament in style with a birdie on the
18th hole Sunday afternoon to win by 3 shots over the tournament
runner-up, former NHL player Bernie Nicholls. Tied for third, 3 shots behind
Nicholls, were former NBA player Jack Marin and current NFL kicker Josh Scobee.
Tournament Host Marshall Faulk carded an 80 Sunday but still managed to finish
in the Top 10, and NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice shot a two-over 74 Sunday to
move into a tie for sixth place.
$125,000 Raised for Junior Seau Foundation and Marshall Faulk

It was also announced that the tournament raised $125,000 for the Junior
Seau Foundation and Marshall Faulk Foundation.
"I've realized that I've been blessed, and I recognize how
important it is to pay it forward. The best part about this tournament is that
it's all about San Diego charities,” Faulk said. “I am humbled and proud to
support my friend Junior Seau, and to do my part in carrying on his incredible
legacy in his hometown."
Other highlights from the 2013 Celebrity Championship hosted by
Marshall Faulk:
- Attendance by celebrities including: Marshall Faulk, Jerry Rice, Ray
Romano, Marcus Allen, Goose Gossage, Bruce Jenner, Rollie Fingers, Jermaine
Dye, Mike Eruzione, Terrell Davis, Brian Baumgartner and many others.
- Spectators from throughout the Greater San Diego Area came out over the
three-day championship to support the event and to see celebrity golf at
its finest.
- Ralphs/Gatorade’s kids clinic Friday afternoon, which gave fifty (50)
lucky children the opportunity to learn the golf fundamentals of putting,
driving, and chipping from celebrities and La Costa PGA Tour
professionals.
- An autograph booth with participating celebrities following Saturday
& Sunday’s rounds.
- Putt for Cash: Spectator David Carrillo narrowly missed a seventy-five
foot putt on the 18th green at the conclusion of the tournament Sunday
afternoon. The putt would have won him $5,000, but even with the miss he
took home a brand new Odyssey putter.
- The 8th annual Military Appreciation Day presented by Union
Bank honored the brave men and women serving courageously in the Armed
Services on Sunday, May 19th. Children in attendance received
free popcorn, snow cones, and the opportunity to play in inflatable bounce
houses compliments of L.B. Jumpers. Attendees also received free lunch
compliments of Carl’s Jr. and participated in a putting contest for both
children and adults, with prizes including Callaway golf gear and tickets
to Legoland.
